Choosing the lesser Evil

Friends, Its election time again. This season gives me jitters because the political establishment breaks every rule to win the election.

For us ordinary Indians, its to choose the lesser evil. The track record on terrorism by both the NDA & the UPA front has been dismal and pathetic. On terrorism, 'Hindustan is bhagwan Bharosey'.

Economic polices as initiated by the Narsimha Rao government will be same irrespective of which ever group comes to power. Cosmetic tocuhes here and there will not effect macro economic situation.

I still think we should vote for an entity which does not dvide the nation. The lesser evil I still feel is the Congress, though its record on the 1984 riots has been dismal. BJP, has no issue. All its economic policies and its foreign policies are aligned with that of the Congress. The only thing is that BJP is rank & file communal. Its cadre is rabidly fascists. It has moderate leaders but in the din of elections, thier voices are never heard. Time and time gain it blames the congress for minorityism, but then they themselves practice majority votabank polictics. In the name of minority votebank, the minorities have never gained anything.

So friends, as an ordinary citizen of this beuatiful nation, I advise my fellow citizens to vote for good people. If its a rare species, then vote for the lesser evil.

Ban on Cow Slaughter

I owe the contents of my first blog to Mr. K Sudershan, RSS Chief who was quoted as saying “As a matter of fact, even the most fundamentalist of Muslims... says that there is no diktat in the Quran to kill cows. In fact, they say a Hadis has termed cow’s flesh as poison and cow urine as nectar”.

To this I just have to say that yes there is no diktat in Islam that recommends killing of cows. And the other truth is eating of cow is not ‘haram’ in Islam. The religion no where says that if you not eat a cow you are not a good muslim.

But the statement that a Hadis has termed cow’s flesh as poison and cow urine as nectar, as far as I know of my religion, is not correct.

We all are living in a diverse culture where each and everyone of us has to respect the feelings of the other religion. If the Hindus treat the cow as sacred, then we should all respect their feelings.

But I want to emphasize here that the ban on cow slaughter is not held up because of Muslims. Majority of the population of the North Eastern states and West Bengal are against such a ban because they themselves consume it. They refer the Vedas to this effect where they say that the cow meat was allowed.

So the whole issue is not between two religions, but within one religion. People who eat justify it in reference to the Vedas, and people who don’t, they justify the other religious scriptures.
